Chief bridesmaid or, if married, matron of honour is a position that should be filled with care.It is her duty to provide the bride with much needed practical help and moral support throughout the planning and emotional demands of the wedding.
A trusted and long-standing friend or sister is ideal, one who is calm in a crisis, considerate and understanding. The position calls for total involvement with the planning and co-ordination of the great day and a willingness to share the demands and responsibilities. Above all she must be sympathetic, with an understanding of the bride’s need for emotional support.Her duties include;
Before the wedding....
Helping the parents and bride with the invitations
Organising appointments for dress fittings, manicures, hairdressers etc.
Arranging the Hen night.
At the ceremony...
Help the bride get dressed on the wedding day
Arrange the bride's dress and veil at the ceremony
Hold the bride's flowers during the ceremony
Act as a witness ( for this reason she should be over 18 years old)
At the reception...
Stand in the receiving line with the bride and groom
Take charge of the wedding dress after the ceremony
Pack any gifts brought to the reception and keep them safe until the couple return from honeymoon.
